Semi-Private Training

At a small Studio near Darrington.

The benefits of personal training in a community setting.

You and the other members of the group receive individual coaching, customized to your ability level and with any modifications that you need.

Fitness training with a group of other women who are challenging their limits creates an environment that is mutually supportive, compassionate and relaxed.

No more than 5 participants per session.

The training we do is based on building strength, endurance, mobility, balance and other abilities for the complex, functional activities of living.
Activities such as:

Getting up from the ground.

Pulling

Pushing

Kneeling

Squatting

Overhead actions like pruning or lifting something onto a high shelf.

Stabilizing our torso while we perform all of these actions.

Going up and down stairs.

Carrying things

These foundational movements increase our ability to engage with all sports and life activities, skiing, gardening, pickleball, hiking.

I saw a flier in Darrington that caught my attention. It mentioned fitness for maturing adults in a small group setting. I later saw a notice for an open house at her facility so I decided to go there to see what it was about. When I was younger I worked at gyms and feel the program that Roselie has is the best program.

I’ve always been involved in some kind of sport activity for a large portion of my life. Equestrian jumping, sports in high school. I skied and played softball and volleyball for years. Suddenly I started having knee issues which caused me to have 5 different surgeries. My life changed drastically, which only allowed me to ride my horses. Then I ruptured my ACL twice and the last one was the worst. I needed a new knee, but I waited for years to have it looked at. This caused so much weakness, not only in my leg, but my entire body, so I started working with Roselie before my surgery and planned to return after my rehab.

I realized that Roselie had the perfect program to increase my endurance, flexibility and most of all my balance after the first week. I also knew that weight training builds muscle and cardio was important for my heart health, which she provides at all levels. She is there to instruct, but also to make sure you are doing each part of the workout correctly to get the best results. Roselie starts by having you come over and discuss your goals and what level you’re at. The atmosphere is delightful with soft, fun music to work out with and soft music to cool down. We never know what each week brings, but I do know she takes a lot of time preparing and she is well accomplished in her field. It is always fun to work as a group and all the people there are very kind and we do have fun too. I knew after the first week that I was at the right place.

~ Victoria M. Age 73

It’s not hyperbole to say that Roselie’s fitness training has changed my life! In addition to becoming significantly stronger over the 18 months I’ve been in her class, I’ve also greatly increased my body awareness. This has led to better posture, has eliminated my foot pain and decreased my chronic neck tension, and I don’t leak pee when I sneeze anymore! I work outside on my farm every day and think frequently about how to use my body to be efficient and safe. I can do so much more, and with ease, than I could before I started fitness training.

Roselie is an excellent teacher who leads us through a series of interesting exercises each session, including a warm up and cool down time. Every session is different, which makes it all more interesting and fun. The range of movements means that there’s always something I feel good at and enjoy, and often a couple of exercises I find especially challenging. She has a gift of reading peoples’ bodies, so she can suggest subtle changes that get the work right where I need it. There’s a great balance of encouragement, education and correction.

The small group of women varies from class to class, but all are supportive and focused on building bone and muscle, mobility and balance. We have fun together, but we also are serious about the work. Roselie adjusts the training for each participant, handing a 35 pound weight to one and suggesting 10 pounds to another, and keeping track so that we continue to get challenged as the weeks go on. I had a knee replacement last fall and missed class for eight weeks. She was amazing at adjusting the training to meet me where I was after the surgery and my doctor credits my fitness training work for my rapid recovery. It’s stunning how quickly we lose muscle mass at an older age, but I am building back up to my pre-surgery strength and best of all, I know I will ultimately be stronger at age 70 than I ever was back in my 50’s, thanks to Roselie’s fitness training!

The Way This Works

On the appointed days you’ll show up at my house a couple minutes before our start time. We will start exactly at the appointed time and you’ll need a minute to get from your car to the shop where the class is held. If you’re going to train with shoes on then you’ll need a minute to change your shoes. I’m not particular about what sort of shoes you wear, but they need to be clean and not wet or it’ll make a mess. In fact, I encourage you to train barefoot if you’re up for it. Locking your feet in shoes keeps them from getting a workout, but I know that having shoes on is important to people for various reasons.

You’ll probably find it convenient to bring a water bottle. There is a sink and a toilet adjacent to the class space.

We’ll start our warm up gradually, do the heavy work, then end with mobility exercises as we cool down.

You’ll learn how to get the work into the right place in your body, and you’ll probably see several progressions of the same fundamental exercise as I expect the group will not all be at the same ability level for each exercise.

As you get started there will be learning as well as work. We’ll find the right starting place for you, and you’ll learn how to do various exercises, as well as learning about the process of challenging your body. You’ll become better at challenging your body over time, and you’ll get to see your abilities increase. The more you choose to share with me about your interests and priorities the more I can customize the class to your needs and aspirations.

Polices and Further Information

I need to know a few personal details about any health conditions you may have, and I’d like to get an early glimpse of your starting point and any specific movement limitations you experience.  The more you’re willing to share with me about yourself and your goals the better.

  • You must schedule your session at least 4 hours in advance.
  • You can schedule sessions up to 60 days in the future.
  • You may reschedule your session up to 8 hours before the session begins without penalty.

The other exception to this rule is when winter driving conditions make roads unsafe.  It’s okay to leave an appointment on the schedule or cancel within 8 hours when there is snow, ice, flooding, or unplowed roads.

You will be charged a $20 no show fee in the event that you sign up for a class and do not attend when there is a member on the waitlist.  The fee will be charged to your credit card on file.

Late Arrivals

You will miss good stuff that prepares you to get the most from your session if you arrive late.  However, some amount of training is better than no training.  If you know you are going to be late come anyway, warm up as needed and get as much as you can from the session.

Don’t worry about last minute cancellations when the driving conditions are unsafe.

I may have to close the studio at the last minute if there is snow blocking the driveway.

In the event that you wish to cancel your membership, you may do so by logging into your account or sending a written request via email or text. Written cancellation requests must be made three business days prior to your monthly payment date to ensure the cancellation is processed on time.  Refunds will not be given for payments that have been processed.

In the event of injury or illness, your membership may be put on hold until you have fully recovered, without any loss of sessions.

In the case of extended travel (2 weeks or more), please let me know in advance when you will leave and return to training and I will adjust your billing cycle accordingly.

I take regular time off for rest, inspiration, continuing education, and adventure. Here’s how that works.

The studio will be closed on Christmas Day, after noon on Christmas Eve and on Thanksgiving Day

The studio will have planned closures for 4 full weeks each calendar year, 1 week per quarter. This means that each monthly training fee includes 4 weeks of sessions for a total of 48 weeks per year.  No refunds will be given for these planned studio closures.

2025 Studio Closures

  • March 9th – 15th
  • May 18th – 24th
  • July 13th – 19th
  • October 19th – 25th

In addition to planned closures I may take extra time off for extended travel or other things that come up.  In the event that I do so you will be refunded.  The way I handle refunds for my absence is by adjusting your billing date to reflect the time that I was away.

I’ll give you a full refund after your first class, after that there are no refunds once a payment has been processed.

If you purchased a class by mistake a full refund will be given minus the processing fee that’s kept by the payment processing company.

At the start of this year I had found myself knowing I was at the lowest level of fitness possibly ever in my life, and wondering how I might turn that around. I could blame a serious injury that had kept me quite sedentary for the past year, but whatever the reason, at age 67 I knew that just to maintain daily living activities, it was time to work on the fitness aspect of my health.

A tip from a friend led me to the fitness training at Dauntless Grace. I had never participated in a class-type organized fitness routine, so I had a few apprehensions! Chiefly: how would it work to join an ongoing FITNESS group when I felt NOT FIT at all ?! Will this just be an exercise (no pun intended) in humiliation?

Three months later – no, it has never been that. In each session, a max of 4 others plus Roselie, the trainer, work through a designed sequence of movements emphasizing strength, flexibility, balance, and light cardio at each woman’s ability and in a supportive and fun atmosphere.

What I have liked:

1) the group is guided through the same or similar movements, but at varying weights, speeds and with no “competition”. Roselie is focused in her role to direct the exercises while giving individual guidance to each of us as necessary. It’s like having a personal trainer, as she is keeping track of each woman’s challenges (knee issues, hip pain…etc)!

2) In the big picture Roselie is aware of each woman’s goals for the training. This might be flexibility for some, or upper body strength for another. I already feel more able to lift and carry things that I must in daily tasks on my property.

3) When I first started the training I expected it to be a task that I was making myself do; to some degree this was the case. After some time into it now, I especially look forward to how I feel after completing the session. I seem to drive home feeling lighter, and moving around in my body more easily the rest of the day.

Kudos to Roselie for offering her fitness training business. I highly recommend it to women who aspire to achieve fitness goals and to simply feel good in their bodies!

Has anybody noticed how much mental work and learning is going on during fitness training? I know there’s this cultural association with strength training being something done by a bunch of semi-neandertals mindlessly pumping out repetitive motions in services to the creation of bigger muscles.
